The Animas Museum

The Animas Museum is owned and operated by the La Plata County Historical Society, whose directors and staff have transformed the 1904 Animas City School building into a charming local history museum.

The Museum offers a variety of exhibits and programs for all ages, and is also home to our research library and photo archives. Sample some of our photo collection here then visit the museum to see more.

The mission of the La Plata County Historical Society is to keep La Plata County history and culture alive for present and future generations.

La Plata County Historical Society Interim Director

La Plata County Historical Society/Animas Museum is seeking an Interim Director who is an innovative manager, motivator, and action-oriented organizer with excellent communication, fundraising, and fiscal management skills. The Interim Director may be considered for the permanent position at the conclusion of the interim period. A full job description may be viewed here.
