Zaidee Rockwood Perkins' Wedding Dress
Catalog Number: 01.17.1

One of the most anticipated social events in Durango happened on June 19, 1901. That evening, Zaidee Rockwood married Clayton Perkins in the First Presbyterian Church. The Weekly Herald newspaper called it “one of the most beautiful weddings that ever delighted the people of Durango." Zaidee’s wedding dress was handed down in her family, ending up in the possession of her great-granddaughter, Zaidee Sadler. She donated the dress to the Animas Museum in 2001.
Unfortunately Zaidee’s dress, while in fair condition considering its age, is made of silk which is now shattering or disintegrating despite being properly stored. It is not repairable. Because of this, staff and volunteers at the Animas Museum are undertaking a project to thoroughly document the dress, make a pattern and finally make a replica of the original.
